Broadwood & Sons London – Grand Piano

Broadwood & Sons London – Grand Piano

KSh730,000

John Broadwood (1732–1812), a Scottish joiner and cabinetmaker, arrived in London in 1761 and began working for Burkat Shudi, a Swiss harpsichord maker. Eight years later, he married Shudi's daughter and joined the firm as a partner in 1770. As the popularity of the harpsichord waned, the firm shifted its focus to the production of pianos, eventually abandoning the harpsichord entirely in 1793.

John Broadwood & Sons is the world's oldest and most prominent piano manufacturer. Famous musicians such as Mozart, Haydn, Chopin, Beethoven, and Liszt have played the instruments. Queen Elizabeth II has granted the company a Royal Warrant as a piano manufacturer.
